Supertram to provide free tram travel for Invictus UK Trials Sheffield 2019 participants
• Free travel offer to competitors, their families and Invictus UK Trials’ staff
• Event takes place across Sheffield from 22-26 July
Supertram has confirmed it will provide free travel for participants of the Invictus UK Trials in Sheffield later this month.
The company – which operates tram services across Sheffield – is making the free travel offer to Invictus UK Trials’ competitors, their families and event employees. All they need to do is show their tram endorsed accreditation pass to take advantage of the offer.
The Invictus UK Trials Sheffield 2019 form part of the selection process for those hoping to compete at the Invictus Games The Hague 2020 and is delivered by Invictus UK; a partnership comprising Help for Heroes, The Royal British Legion and the Ministry of Defence.
The Supertram network links many of the venues being used for the Trials and offers great accessibility with level boarding at all tram stops. Those visiting Sheffield for the event can also use the tram services to explore all that the city has to offer.
The Trials are taking place between 22 and 26 July in four locations around Sheffield City – the English Institute of Sport Sheffield, Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield Hallam University Athletics Track and a closed cycle circuit around the City.
Tim Bilby, Managing Director at Supertram, said: "We are delighted to be able to offer free transport to support the Trials and to show our appreciation and gratitude for the work and sacrifices of our Armed Forces and veterans. It is great to have the opportunity to give something back to those who have already given so much.”
Hannah Lawton, Sports Recovery Manager at Help for Heroes and Event Manager for the Invictus UK Trials said: “We are delighted with Supertram’s generous provision of free transport for our Invictus UK Trials’ competitors, their families and event staff during the Invictus UK Trials week, later this month. During this incredible week of sport, which will be a life-changing experience for so many wounded, injured and sick veterans and service personnel and their friends and family. Supertram’s accessible and well-placed network will enable all those involved to travel across the City cost and trouble-free.”
Supertram is part of Perth-based Stagecoach Group which signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2015, pledging to support Armed Forces personnel in a number of ways. Supertram already offers a discounted £1 single fare to serving members of the Armed Forces and also provides free transport to serving members of the Armed Forces and veterans on National Armed Forces Day and Remembrance Sunday.
