Supertram services suspended due to extreme heat
As is the case with many rail operations and other transport services across the country, the extreme and unprecedented heat is having a severe impact on Supertram services. As a result, Supertram services will be temporarily suspended for the remainder of today (Tuesday 19 July). Services are expected to return to the planned timetable tomorrow (no services will run between Halfway and Birley Lane). Services will also run as planned over the Tramlines Festival weekend from 22-24 July.
Tim Bilby, Managing Director for Supertram said: "Due to issues caused by extreme heat affecting trams and infrastructure, we have made the difficult decision to suspend all services until further notice.
"Safety is our number one priority and this decision is necessary to ensure the safety of our customers and employees, and at the same time enable us to get services running as smoothly as possible following this spell of unprecedented weather.
“Services are expected to run as planned tomorrow and over the Tramlines Festival 22-24 July.
“We will continually monitor conditions to determine whether services can be reintroduced at all today, and updates on our services can be found on our website and social media channels. We apologise for any inconvenience caused."
