STAGECOACH YORKSHIRE BOSS TO RETIRE AFTER NEARLY FOUR DECADES OF SERVICE TO THE BUS INDUSTRY

Stagecoach announced today (November 24) that Phil Medlicott, Managing Director for the company's operations in Yorkshire, is to retire in March next year after nearly four decades of service to the bus industry.

Phil, aged 59, began his career in the bus industry in 1983, becoming a driver and then holding a number of management posts at bus companies in Birkenhead, Runcorn and London.

He joined Stagecoach in 2000 as Operations Director for the South and then held Managing Director roles for Warwickshire, South East and North East.

After spending two years as Managing Director with First Manchester, Phil returned to Stagecoach in 2018 to head up its business in the Midlands, before being appointed Managing Director of Stagecoach Yorkshire in February 2020 where he is responsible for over 1100 employees and almost 350 buses.

Phil said: “I have had an enjoyable and rewarding career in the bus industry and most of it has been as part of the Stagecoach family. As well as tackling the daily operational and financial challenges, I’ve had the opportunity to develop and grow services that are critical to local communities in many parts of the country.

"In all of the roles that I've had, what has stood out for me has been the people I have been fortunate to work with, from our fantastic frontline employees to the great support teams and managers around them. I’ve made many life-long friends along the way.

“My friends and family, in particular my wife, have supported me through multiple job and location changes and now I’m looking forward to enjoying spending more time together, without Pickfords on speed dial!”

Carla Stockton-Jones, Stagecoach UK Managing Director, said: “I’d like thank Phil for his many years of service in leadership roles with Stagecoach right across the country, bringing significant knowledge and experience to improve bus services for our customers.

"Phil has also been a huge influence on other members of the team, having mentored numerous graduates and management trainees over the years, some of whom have gone on to undertake director roles within the business and in other parts of the UK bus industry. We wish Phil a very well-deserved, happy and healthy retirement when it comes.”

A recruitment process is currently underway to appoint a new Managing Director for Stagecoach Yorkshire and an announcement will be made in due course.
