Stagecoach Supertram services to ramp up as England gears up for next stage of unlocking

As England gears up for the next stage of unlocking on 12 April, Stagecoach Supertram services will be returning to around 90% of pre-pandemic levels to support the re-opening of many more leisure and hospitality facilities across the city.

Stagecoach has worked with the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) to agree increased timetables to run from Monday 12 April to support local demand in Sheffield and Rotherham.

Stagecoach is also taking the opportunity to thank people for their continued co-operation in following all the guidelines in place. In line with the advice from the country’s health advisors, all people travelling on public transport will need to continue to follow the legal rules around wearing face coverings for the full duration of the journey, washing/sanitising hands before and after travel and maintaining social distancing.

All our tram services follow relevant government guidance for public transport with extra measures in place to help people feel fully confident as they return to public transport.  We’ve all worked so well together, and as the country starts to unlock, it’s still important that people continue to follow all the guidelines in place as they travel on our services.”

Tim Taylor, Director of Customer Services at SYPTE, said: “With more businesses, retail, close-contact and community services as well as some hospitality opening up again, we expect more people will need to use public transport and we want everyone to be able to travel as safely as possible. Ramping up services will contribute to that, as it will increase the network’s capacity. Please follow Government travel advice to help control the spread of Coronavirus by planning ahead, avoiding peak times, minimising the number of journeys you make, combining trips and trying to stay local.”

Summary of the timetables from Monday 12 April:

  • The Yellow route returns to full timetable with trams every 10-12 minutes during the day Monday to Saturday and every 20 minutes in the evening and on Sundays.
  • Revised timetable on the Blue route with increased frequency in the evenings and on Sundays.
  • Purple route remains every 30 minutes all day every day.
  • Tram Train remains at two services an hour all day every day.
