Stagecoach statement
In response to today's court case sentencing hearing in Plymouth, in relation to the accident involving a Stagecoach Gold service at Totnes in October 2019, please find a statement below:
Mike Watson, Managing Director of Stagecoach South, said: "Our thoughts today remain with those affected by the accident at Totnes in October 2019 and for their families and loved ones. We are deeply sorry for what happened.
“Safety is and always will be our first concern, and we take our responsibilities extremely seriously. This includes all employees, including in this case, holding all of the legal qualifications required to drive our vehicles.
“We have made it our continuing priority to work very closely with the authorities to assist with the court case. In the immediate aftermath of the accident, we put in place a dedicated phoneline to help those affected access medical help, including counselling and rehabilitation services.
“We are continuing to work with representatives of those who were involved in the accident to progress a number of outstanding claims as speedily as possible as we receive and process the relevant information required.
"Following the accident, we conducted a thorough review of our internal processes and have specifically strengthened oversight and training of employees who operate services on an infrequent basis.
“We can also confirm that an internal disciplinary review is ongoing as a result of the accident and the verdict in today’s court case.
“We will continue to take any further steps necessary to ensure the local community has access to safe, high quality bus services and can travel in confidence.”
