Employing over 2000 veterans, Stagecoach, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, is dedicated to building an inclusive workforce and the operator has today (February 13th, 2024) been announced as a finalist in the ‘Employer of the Year’ category at the Ex-Forces in Business Awards.

Since 2018, this flagship awards programme has been dedicated to showcasing the diverse talents of the Armed Forces community to employers.

The finalists of the 2024 Scottish Ex-Forces in Business Awards were whittled down from over 300 nominations. The winners are decided by an independent judging panel made up of 24 veterans and business leaders from major Scottish employers such as Addleshaw Goddard, Barclays, JPMorgan, Edrington, SSE and The Scottish Government.

As part of a diversity pledge, signed by Stagecoach, the operator being shortlisted recognises its commitment to build an inclusive workforce representative of the customers and communities it serves.

Stagecoach has seven employee networks, including Women@Stagecoach, LGBTQ+ network, Carers, Young Managers, Parents, Multicultural and Veterans.  These groups help deliver a more inclusive workplace, with each network comprising of employees from varied roles in the business who encourage change and foster space for education.

Resources available within the extensive Veteran Network include an employee-based group which covers the UK and offers a space to talk openly amongst peers, share stories, and seek support where necessary. The group also attend career fairs for those leaving the Armed Forces and were successful in introducing free bus travel to Armed Forces and Veterans on Remembrance Weekend and Armed Forces Day.

Simon Tramalloni, Lead for Stagecoach’s Veteran Network, said; To be shortlisted as finalists for the second consecutive year shows our commitment to the Armed Forces, Veterans, and the wider community. This is a fitting tribute to the efforts that our employee networks contribute to not only assisting those Armed Forces personnel once they start with Stagecoach but also Veterans alike. This support mechanism does not only directly benefit our own employees but also the wider armed forces community.”

This year’s winners will be revealed on 14 March at a sparkling awards ceremony which has become a firm fixture in Scotland’s business calendar. Hosted by broadcasting legend Sally Magnusson in the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow’s Grand Ballroom, the evening includes a programme of entertainment and guest speakers including Graeme Dey, Veterans Minister, and Lt Cdr Susie Hamilton, the Scottish Veterans Commissioner.
