- Across the Group there are currently 74 female engineers, including 10 apprentices
Stagecoach, the UK’s leading bus and coach operator, is proud to celebrate National Women in Engineering Day by shining a spotlight on the talented and inspiring women across its engineering teams.
Currently, 74 female engineers are driving innovation and excellence across the company, including 10 apprentices who represent the next generation of skilled professionals.
Among them is Nancy Halpin, Engineering Apprentice at Stagecoach, who shared what drives her passion:
"It's about breaking down the stigmas around women in engineering, and recognising the advantages that women bring to the role. For me I've always just wanted to take things apart and put them back together and it's the satisfaction you get from it that inspires me to succeed as an engineer."
Charlotte Nicholls, Assistant Engineering Manager, also reflected on her journey through the company:
"I first got into engineering with my Dad as he was into classic cars a lot when I was a kid. So that's where my passion first started. I saw an opportunity come up at Stagecoach and I decided to go for it. I've been here nearly eight years now and I've worked my way up from being an apprentice to a fitter, up to now Assistant Engineering Manager. It's a constant learning curve and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking about getting into the profession."
Tony Cockcroft, Asset Management and Infrastructure Director at Stagecoach, commented:
"At Stagecoach, we believe diversity strengthens our engineering teams and brings fresh perspectives to solving complex challenges. We’re incredibly proud of the talented women across our depots who are making a real impact every day. From apprentices to senior roles, their contributions are vital to our success, and we remain committed to creating an environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive."
Stagecoach is committed to building a more diverse and inclusive workforce, supporting women to thrive in traditionally male-dominated roles and championing equal opportunities across all departments.
National Women in Engineering Day is a powerful reminder of the progress made — and the work still to do — in creating pathways for women in engineering. Stagecoach continues to invest in training, development, and mentorship to help talented individuals, regardless of gender, reach their full potential.
