Stagecoach backs Age UK's national campaign encouraging people to get active
- Stagecoach is supporting Age UK’s newly launched ‘Act Now, Age Better’ campaign
- The campaign hopes to start a national conversation about becoming more physically active in mid-life to help ensure a happier, healthier and more independent later life
- Stagecoach’s ‘Grand Days Out’ initiative also encourages older people to get out, and explore their communities using buses
Stagecoach, the UK’s leading bus operator, is proud to announce its support for Age UK’s ‘Act Now, Age Better’ campaign, which launched on the 29 April.
The campaign is encouraging people in their 50s and 60s to take action now to get active, helping them to live healthier, happier lives as they age.
With estimates suggesting that by 2040, more than 40% of the UK population will be over 50, and over five million will be aged 80 and above, the message is clear: it’s never too early to start building better habits for the future.
As part of its support, Stagecoach is also rolling out ‘Grand Days Out’ – a separate initiative designed to encourage older people to get out, explore local attractions and re-connect with their communities using public transport. The goal is to reduce social isolation and loneliness, improve wellbeing, and help older passengers gain confidence in using buses to stay active and independent.
In addition to this, Stagecoach employees across the UK are getting involved on the ground – volunteering with Age UK to offer travel advice, support fundraising efforts, and even take on personal challenges to build fitness and promote the benefits of staying active.
Debra Goodwin, Chief Customer Officer at Stagecoach, said:
“We’re incredibly proud to be supporting Age UK in this important campaign. We know how vital it is for our health to keep active , and encouraging people to travel by bus is just one way we’re helping to make that easier. Whether it’s getting out to the park, or going to the gym or an exercise class – small steps really do lead to big changes.”
Pippa Lock, Head of Corporate Partnerships and Philanthropy at Age UK, said:
“We’re delighted to have our partner Stagecoach supporting our Act Now Age, Better Campaign. We know that staying active now increases the chances of living the life we want later. By supporting our campaign to encourage people to get active now, as well as through their Grand Days Out trips, Stagecoach is helping to shift the mindset from exercise as obligation to movement as empowerment.”
This initiative reflects Stagecoach’s broader commitment to accessible, inclusive transport and community engagement across the UK.
