Stagecoach appoints new Managing Director of east of England bus operations
- Michelle Hargreaves to take on permanent role following retirement of Andy Campbell
Stagecoach has announced a new managing director for its bus operations in the east of England.
Michelle Hargreaves has been confirmed as the new Stagecoach East Managing Director after taking on the role on an interim basis in December, following the retirement of former Managing Director Andy Campbell.
Michelle has most recently been part of Stagecoach’s business change team, focusing on developing a strategy around people development and employee wellbeing. She will continue to progress some of that work alongside her position as Managing Director of Stagecoach East.
Michelle Hargreaves started her career with Stagecoach in 1987 as a Cash Clerk, and has become a well respected and influential leader. After holding a number of managerial positions, she was appointed Managing Director, Stagecoach South West in 2008 and then in 2013 she took on the role of Managing Director, Stagecoach East Midlands.
Stagecoach East carries around 35million passengers, covering 17.5 million miles each year and employs around 1000 staff.
Stagecoach UK Bus Managing Director for England and Wales, Mark Threapleton, said: “Michelle has a strong background in leading successful operating companies, including East Midlands and the South West, and has already made a positive impact during her short time in the East.
“The work she has been undertaking as part of the Change programme including health and well-being, uniform and recognition will transfer to the Change team however Michelle will still play a role in how this progresses moving forwards.
“I wish Michelle and her team the very best for the future and know that they will continue to be successful with her leadership.”
Michelle Hargreaves said: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my first few months with the team at Stagecoach East and I’m delighted that we can now look to the future and build on the work that has been done before now and to deliver even better bus services for local people.
“This is a great part of the world to live, work and visit and having a high quality transport system is a key part of that. I look forward to working with our local partners across the region to further develop the transport network.”
