Stagecoach Announces Participation in Government £3 Fare Cap
- Builds on Stagecoach’s commitment to offer value for money fares
- Transparent and accessible fares are available on the Stagecoach Bus App
- Provides an ongoing incentive to switch from cars to buses, contributing to improved air quality
Stagecoach Group, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, has announced that it will participate in the new government bus fare cap scheme from 1st January 2025. It will cap single fares at £3 across eligible routes in England.
Claire Miles, Chief Executive Officer at Stagecoach Group, said: “We are focused on providing great value services for customers and this announcement provides certainty for the year ahead. Reliable, affordable transport is essential to our infrastructure and economy, and we're proud to play our part in ensuring vital routes are served.”
While some longer-distance fares previously capped at £2 will rise to £3 under the new government scheme, most single journeys across England will still cost less than £3, ensuring affordability and continued value for bus customers.
Claire Miles added: “We are committed to connecting communities to the people and places that matter the most, and that means offering our customers great value for their journeys. Our approach means we will continue to provide affordable travel options for our communities.”
The £3 fare cap takes effect on 1st January 2025. Stagecoach single and return bus tickets can be purchased on the Stagecoach Bus App in advance of travel, on the bus using contactless payment including Apple and Google Pay or using cash.
