Stagecoach achieves environmental management systems certification
- ISO Certification for the UK's largest bus and coach operator
Stagecoach, the UK’s largest bus and coach operator, today announces the Stagecoach Group Limited Perth Head Office, the Stockport Service Centre (SSC) and Greater Manchester Buses South Limited are now certified to ISO14001:2015. This certification is the internationally-recognised standard for environmental management systems (EMS), promoting consistent environmental practices.
The certification highlights Stagecoach’s commitment to sustainability and operational excellence. Rob Jones, Managing Director of Stagecoach Manchester, emphasised the importance of this milestone: “I am extremely proud of everyone’s contribution to enable this milestone achievement. Not only are we demonstrating our commitment to the newly franchised network, we achieved it five months ahead of the franchise requirements.
“In addition to the strong environmental management practices, I believe our certification success is underpinned by our sustainability strategy and our operating company’s collaborative approach with central functions, external partners and other stakeholders, including Transport for Greater Manchester.”
Stagecoach’s EMS certification provides a structured framework for managing environmental risks while identifying opportunities for improvement. The benefits include reducing resource consumption such as energy, water, and materials; minimising waste; and lowering greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These measures align with the company’s broader sustainability goals and contribute to achieving its group sustainability strategy aspirations.
Claire Miles, CEO of Stagecoach, said: “Strong environmental practice is an important cornerstone of our sustainability strategy. It’s clear that decarbonising our fleet and overall environmental management are intrinsically linked. As such, structured environmental management practices will further drive efficiency, accelerating us toward our broader objectives.”
The certification announcement follows Stagecoach’s recent membership into the Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter, further demonstrating the company’s dedication to improving workplace and environmental standards across the business.
