Contactless payments now available on all Supertram services
- Customers can now pay on their tram service using contactless or chip and pin cards
- Apple Pay and Google Pay devices also accepted
- Pre-purchase tickets also available online or through the Stagecoach mobile app
Customers using Stagecoach Supertram services will now find it even easier to travel by tram, with contactless payment now available on board every tram across Sheffield and Rotherham.
Tram customers can now pay for their journey on board the tram, either using a contactless or chip and pin credit or debit card, as well as Apple Pay and Google Pay devices. Customers can also continue to pay by cash if they prefer, but the investment means quicker and easier payments for people who don’t have cash to hand or prefer to pay by card.
Tim Bilby, Managing Director of Stagecoach Supertram, said: “We’re really pleased to have rolled out contactless payments across all of our tram services.
“Customers can now pay for their service on-board using whatever means of payment they’d prefer, either contactless, smart card, Apple Pay or Google Pay or still by cash. Of course smart cards are still supported, and pre-purchase is also available online or through the Stagecoach mobile app.
“We want to make it as easy and convenient as possible for people to travel on our services, and we are sure this investment in better technology will assist with that.”
Stagecoach has completed the biggest roll-out of contactless technology by any bus operator in Britain, with the technology available across its 7,000-vehicle fleet of buses in Scotland, England and Wales. Over 50 million contactless journeys have been made on its bus services since it was fully introduced in late 2018.
